They say they're the best seat in East Dallas, BarNone. They have both light fare and meaty burgers. If you go on the weekend, the brunch menu includes boozy cereal options like Cocoa Krispies with Kahlua.

  • Bizzy Burger

    13251 Montfort Dr. North Dallas

    972-803-6153

Bizzy Burger is located in North Dallas near Addison and is only the second location for the team which has plans of changing the way Americans consume burgers.

This spot, near what used to be Valley View Mall, is very clean with minimalistic décor. Inside there is a touch of urban-chic art on the walls and plenty of booth-style seating for curious foodies.

You have your choice of meat patties, which are single (kinda Bizzy $3.50) double (very Bizzy $5.50), or a triple (extremely Bizzy $7.50).

Next select one of the five flavor blends, such as mixed hot peppers, roasted garlic an sweet onion, wild mushroom mix, blistered tomato and herbs, or Korean BBQ. Tot Fries, which are a crossbreed of tater tots and fries, and kimchi are offered as sides at $2.75 each. We went with three single kinda Bizzy patties because the price is very reasonable, and chose the Korean BBQ, garlic onion, and hot pepper options with both sides.

  • Black Tap Craft Burgers & Beer

2475 Victory Park Lane Uptown/Oak Lawn

    469-341---8288

Black Tap is an American-style eatery on designer steroids. The first location was New York City's SOHO neighborhood with a mere 15 seats. There are locations in Las Vegas, Dubai, Singapore, Geneva and elsewhere, and Dallas makes 19 globally. Owner Julie Mulligan says her team spent a lot of time exploring Dallas before opening this spot to ensure they could "bring something that further elevates the city’s offerings and, beyond our quality food, we’re here to introduce our innovative dining experience complete with a fun, creative vibe."

  • Bobbers Burgers and Whips

    311 S. Akard St. Downtown/Deep Ellum

    972-268-7605

Located inside The Exchange food hall at the AT&T Discovery District, Bobbers Burgers and Whips offers flamed-grilled burgers, hot dogs and fries. Queso plays a prominent role on the menu and should be slathered on everything. The ooey-gooey pimento cheese burger is strongly recommended. They also serve the vegan pineapple dessert made famous at Disney World, Dole Whip. Grab a drink at the nearby bar and consider eating outside in the spacious and vibrant plaza when the weather is nice. There is also plenty of dining spaces throughout The Exchange.

  • Burger Island 2

    525 W. Arapaho Road ste 8 Richardson & Vicinity

    972-235-8960

If we were stranded on a desert island, the meal we’d likely be left longing for is, without a doubt, a nice juicy burger. With that in mind, Burger Island in Richardson seems appropriately named, despite its lack of proximity to any major bodies of water. Hidden in a strip mall behind a Taco Bell, this small counter-service spot offers burgers, fries and shakes, plus palm trees painted on the walls for, er, ambiance. Half-pound burgers are the main attraction. Choose your own toppings from a small list of gut-busting options like chili, guacamole, grilled onions and bacon, or go for one of the house specialties like the Hickory Burger or the Pizza Cheeseburger. True adventure-seekers can opt for the Jungle Burger, which piles on practically every topping in the house. If french fries just won’t do, there’s a ton of other fried options like pickles, mushrooms and stuffed jalapeños.

  • C. Senor

    330 W. Davis St. Oak Cliff/South Dallas

    214-941-4766

The Cubano sandwich at the little Oak Cliff hut is fantastic. The roast pork is shredded to strings and fatty and juicy. The ham is sliced thick, the cheese is melty and those pickles tag-team the taste buds with a healthy dose of mustard for a much needed punch of acid. Despite it's Caribbean flavor, this stand also offers a grand take on the hamburger: beef and chorizo patty, spiced ketchup, diced onion, potato strings (crispy and thin!), pepperjack cheese -- all on a soft Cuban roll. Whatever you order, don't forget the yucca fries dusted with chili salt.

  • Capitol Pub

2401 N. Henderson Ave. East Dallas & Lakewood

    214-887-9330

With an extensive draft and bottled beer selection, dartboards and dark wood, this watering hole has must-stop written all over it. This is further proven by the barhopping mobs along the stretch of Henderson on which Capitol is located. Lunch is served Friday, Saturday and Sunday beginning at 11 a.m. There is a Sunday brunch option. The rest of the week, the restaurant and bar opens at 4 p.m., offering its full menu. The choices include everything from cheese plates and salads to pizzas and burgers, like the Capitol (sirloin burger with hickory smoked bacon, caramelized onion and Dijon mustard with Maytag blue or Cotswold cheeses). House-made onion rings and hand-cut fries come with three dipping sauces, basil mayo, blue cheese and caramelized shallot dip and curry sauce.

  • Chip's Old Fashioned Hamburger

4530 W. Lovers Lane Park Cities

    214-691-2447

Chip’s Old Fashioned Hamburger is known for its juicy, one-third- to one-half-pound burgers served up on poppy-seed-encrusted buns. Add-ons range from the typical (caramelized onions, mushrooms, bacon) to the slightly more exotic (guacamole, fried green tomatoes or poblano peppers). Fries are fairly standard, but skin-on and well-seasoned, and the habitually indecisive will be pleased to find a “frings” option -- that is, a French fry and fried onion strings combo basket. There are also tater tots, giant salads, huge baked potatoes topped with everything from chicken strips and gravy to pulled pork, and damn fine milkshakes made nice and thick with Blue Bell ice cream.

  • Chop House Burger

    1501 Main St. Downtown/Deep Ellum

    214-741-2747

CHB is brought to you by DRG Concepts, the group behind Dallas Chop House and Wild Salsa, and is located in the Kirby Building on Main Street, across from Chase Bank and just a stone's throw from the Chesterfield and City Tavern. ?CHB has a significantly lower price point than most other gourmet burger joints, but doesn't skimp on ingredients. (Its signature burger has black truffle sauce, another has goat cheese and arugula.) There are other non-beef options, too, including a Hulk-green falafel burger with tzatziki, a crispy chicken sandwich with white peppercorn gravy, and an ahi tuna sandwich with wasabi mayo and crispy nori. French fries are super crispy and nicely salted, and can be doused with truffle oil and Parmesan for a buck extra. Besides the usual soda fountain, there's a small selection of bottled beers and drafts including Modelo and Fireman's #4. There's also a fun selection of milkshakes made from Plano-based Henry's Ice Cream, including PB&J, Nutella and Whopper varieties.
  • Christies Sports Bar & Grill

    2817 Greenville Ave. Uptown/Oak Lawn

    469-250-7323

When the soup of the day is “mimosas” and sangrias come in towers, you know you’ve found home. Not to mention the spicy and tropical F*** It Bucket. And while we all loved (sometimes too much) their original Uptown location, their new spot has a large outdoor space; every seat on their patio, rooftop and inside has views of TVs. It's literally wall-to-wall sports here. It's a great option for catching local sports teams, especially when the weather is nice and you can sit on the patio.

  • Dairy-Ette

9785 Ferguson Rd. White Rock Lake Area

    214-327-9983

East Dallas has a healthy dose of drive-in burger joints. Dairy-Ette, open since 1956, is just one of the fine examples of a bygone era frozen in time -- and neon. Here, care is not only given to the burgers but is also given to the thin, snap-in-your-mouth fries and homemade root beer (as in on location), done the same way since the cooks began flipping patties at Dairy-Ette. The fries, though unseasoned, are so revered customers skip the standard drive-in tater tots. Greasy cheeseburgers, club sandwiches and ice cream floats can also be consumed inside the restaurant on a backed counter stool or in a vinyl booth. Drive up for the car-side service or step inside for some kiss-my-grits short orders.

  • Dodie's Place

    190 E. Stacy Rd., Suite 1320 Allen/McKinney

    972-678-4550

Big Easy transplants the McGuinness clan opened Dodie’s in 1989. They serve family-inspired recipes that are a gumbo blend of Cajun and New Orleans cuisine. Expect mudbugs and shrimp in all their permutations and several po-boy options, such as catfish, atop checkered tablecloths. It’s got all that, plus families, surrounded by a mishmash of beer signs, crawfish decorations, sports games on big screens and N’Awlins art. If you’re leery of that, call in your order for pick-up.

  • Fat Daddy's Burger House

9540 Garland Rd. White Rock Lake Area

    214-324-1800

The common Dallas thin patty has no home here. Fat Daddy's serves up them up big and juicy at half a pound with seasoned steak fries and drinks in a checkered paper-lined basket. The hand-formed burgers and the varied toppings and condiments bar are only part of the allure of this family-friendly Casa Linda restaurant. Order the one-pound Fat Daddy special and get two free beers. You could get a soda or a shake (vanilla, chocolate or strawberry), but that will cost you. The beer is free and has been since 2002 when Fat Daddy's first opened. The menu also offers fish tacos, chicken tenders, salads and other "healthier" alternatives for those customers unable to put a hefty piece of meat between a substantial bun.

  • Fred's Texas Cafe

7101 Camp Bowie West Fort Worth

    817-332-0083

Fred's Texas Café has been around since 1978 serving spectacular food, beer and live music, but lately it might seem a little out of place. A few years back, the cultural district was developed into shiny, new upscale wine bars and theaters. An offer was made to buy the land under Fred's and turn it into a parking lot. Fred said no. And anyone who likes local Texas music over a plate of nachos and a beer is grateful. It's not exactly a honky-tonk, but the numerous cattle brand symbols covering the wall and the fenced performance space out back definitely let you know you're in Texas.

  • In-N-Out Burger

7940 N. Central Expressway East Dallas & Lakewood

    800-786-1000

The California chain restaurant has been serving up burgers since 1948. The menu is simple with literally only three burger options to choose from, the hamburger, cheese burger and double-double. The fun comes from ordering off-menu-items like the "2x4", a burger with two beef patties and four slices of cheese, "Animal Style", a mustard-cooked beef patty with added pickles, diced onions and specials sauce, and the "Flying Dutchman" two pieces of cheese smooshed between two beef patties, that's it. Diners are free to swingh through the drive-thru, sit inside the brightly list, palm tree infested dining area -- really, there are palm trees everywhere, on the cups, uniforms, even on the wallpaper-- or take their food to go.

  • J's Breakfast & Burgers

    14925 Midway Rd. Addison

    972-239-7619

"20 Years and Still Cookin'" pretty much nails J's. It's amazing so many people can eat all that weighty American goodness and live for that long. It must have something to do with the food, cheaper than last night's grease and the "kiss my grits" staff. Operating 'round the clock (making it a good place to sober up with an after-hours breakfast), this diner is replete with green vinyl and parts held together by duct tape. J's has a much-coveted smoking section and the requisite chicken-fried steak, to boot.
