  • Neuhaus Cafe

    5959 Royal Lane North Dallas

    214-739-4600

Nary a bad word has been uttered about this shop that carries a little bit of everything. The eclectic approach is as visible in the menu as it is in the interior design. There are bulk candy machines. There are Euro-style minimalist tables and chairs. There are gourmet salads and sandwiches. There are Belgian chocolates. You get the idea. Neuhaus is all over the map. The Dinner Plate Specials, always on offer, are just as varied. A family can order meatloaf, pecan-crusted trout and the $11 "New York Deli" kosher hot dogs, which come with a side of sauerkraut and a choice of vegetarian baked beans or mashed potatoes. Wash it all down with an Arnold Palmer (half ice tea, half lemonade), an Italian soda or a cappuccino. But don't forget the cheese fries!

  • Pizza Parm Project

5027 W. Lovers Lane Park Cities

    214-350-5027

  • Slices Pizza

2025 Cedar Springs Road, Ste. A Uptown/Oak Lawn

    469-687-0078

This Sicilian style pizzeria imports their flour from Naples, tomatoes from Campania, olive oil from Sicily and their ovens are custom-made in Venice. It was founded by an ex-mobster who was a member of the Colombo crime family. The thick square slices of pizza are flavorful and fulfilling; the salads are fresh. This is only a to-go spot, no dining available at the store. And their late-night hours (3 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights) make it a great option for late-night revelers.
  • Stonedeck Pizza Pub

    2613 Elm St. Downtown/Deep Ellum

    469-802-6742

Destined to be known as that other pizzeria in Deep Ellum, Stonedeck Pizza Pub gives the neighborhood a slice it has never seen before. While Cane Rosso focuses on light, almost wispy Neapolitan pies, Stonedeck offers what they call classic American thin-crust pizza. The description is a mouthful and so are their pizzas. Apart from traditional toppings like sausage and pepperoni, you can get a pizza topped with chicken tikka masala, or Asian-style pork. The flavors seem goofy, but many of them work, and Stonedeck is by far the best late-night option for eats in Deep Ellum — they’re open till 2 a.m. on the weekends. They also deliver on the pub promised in their name. With a sprawling beer list and Dallas’ largest collection of moonshine, you can get as sauced as the slices. And don’t miss the closed-in patio out back. It’s one of Dallas’ best.

  • Tea Thyme Tisane Cafe & Bakery

    1104 S. Elm St. Carrollton/Farmers Branch

    214-483-2888

Some of the best tea in the DFW area-sold by the cup or in bulk for home brewing-and the best tisane. What the hell is tisane? Well, the roots, bark and herbs are used to make tea around the world. The kitchen leans toward old home-style dishes, emphasizing the cooking of moms who had to stretch a budget: meatloaf, salmon cakes, corn casseroles and that sort of thing. As a restaurant, it's a page out of the 1970s.
