  • Peak's Addition Neighborhood

Swiss Ave. East Dallas & Lakewood

    214-724-8639

Peak’s Addition is the earliest developed portion of East Dallas as well as its oldest residential neighborhood. Some claim it is older than the city of Dallas itself, which was granted a town charter in 1856. Our neighborhood began with the large estate Colonel Jefferson Peak built in 1855 on the corner of Worth and Peak Streets. This house was the first brick house in Dallas. Peak was a major landowner who at one time owned all of the land from Elm to Capital and Carroll to Haskell. Major East Dallas streets still bear Peak’s name and those of his children: Junius, Worth, Victor, and Carroll.

Wilkommen zum (Welcome everyone) to Oktoberfest! As the North Texas autumn cools, we are readying Walnut Street for the 2015 Oktoberfest on Walnut, scheduled for Friday, Oct. 2 from 5 to 11 pm. The free-entry event sports an expanded and improved street layout, and the new beer-tent concept will add more enjoyment to the ultimate block party, sponsored by Ben E. Keith, Frenchy's, Ed Steele Photography, and many downtown businesses sharing this part of Historic Downtown Denton. Look for the fun Nagel Shlagen (nail hammering), stein hoisting, children and adult costume contests, and eclectic, live music featuring headliner High School Caesar. Opening ceremony is at 6 pm, with tapping of the firkin soon after. More than a dozen booths will offer merchandise, including the Pan Ector T-Shirt Shop, and Tranquility Artisans, along with face painting by Nora Susko. All the best festival food Denton has to offer will be there including brats, pretzels, apple strudel, and food truck cuisine, such as the Waffle Wagon. For drinking-age adults, beer tickets and wristbands will be required and will be available at the Ticket Tent, adjacent to the Beer Tent.
